Perhaps no mountain in the world has so many names, like the famous two-headed Elbrus, there are around 36 of them. It is said that the word "El" is translated as "wind" and "brus" is “to manage”. The Balkars called the mountain "Mingi Tau", which means "Eternal mountain of consciousness and wisdom, Kabardians, called it “Oshhamaho”, which translates as "Mountain of Happiness". The Iranians call it a "Bright mountain", the Turks - "The Lord of the mountain of spirits", the Abkhaz - "Mountain of indwelling of blessed". The Elbrus two vertices. Western has a height of 5642 meters, and Eastern is 5623 meters. It is believed that the mountain is an extinct volcano. It has a conical shape with a base diameter of about 18 kilometers. Both peaks of Elbrus are covered with eternal ice and snow. Their total area is 135 square kilometers, and the power of the ice is up to 400 meters. Around the mountain is located a national Park "Prielbrusje", the largest tourist and recreational complex in the Caucasus. In 2008 Elbrus was recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of Russia.
