The word "Vovnushki" translated from the Ingush language literally means "a place of battle towers". Actually, Vovnushki are two castles that are located on opposite sides of the gorge. There are two towers on one side, and one tower on the other. The towers are four-storey, with narrow loopholes, powerful walls block the approaches to towers. The castle complex blends well into the surrounding landscape, the towers seem to be growing straight out of the stone. In old times, the twin towers were joined by a suspension bridge, and it was used by the women, the elderly and children to move to a safer place in the case of the siege. The height of the tower is approximately equal to the seven-story building. There was only one way to get in, using the front door on the second floor, this made using a battering ram during the siege impossible for enemies.
