The Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula has the shape of an almost perfect truncated cone with a base diameter of about 15 miles. The Central crater, which has been in continuous state of smoking, has a diameter of about 550-600 meters, its shape and the cavity dimensions change during eruptions. There are up to 90 side craters on its slopes, the third part of them was formed not so long ago. On the top of the volcano there are glaciers, but they do not form a "cap", as a result of frequent eruptions, the top is often free of snow and ice. Some glacier tongues descent almost to base of the mountain. The age of Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano, according to scientists, is about 7000 years. Over the past 270 years there were more than 50 strong eruptions. Eruptions occur every 5 years in average. The last eruption of the volcano was in 2012. Residents of Kamchatka believe volcanoes are dwellings of the dead and tell stories that when a smoke is visible over the tops of mountains that’s because the dead stoke in their yurts. The height of the volcano is more than for 4750 meters.
