Museum-reserve “The Kulikovo Field”  was established in October 1996. It is believed that the reserve is located on the place of the famous Battle of Kulikovo, in the basin of the Don river at its merge with Neprjadva river, in the south-east of the Tula region. The Battle of Kulikovo was a decisive battle between united Russian Army and the Golden Horde, that was a start of a Russian independence from Mongols. The first monument on the site of the battle was opened on 8 September 1850,  it was a monument to russian commander, Prince Dmitry Donskoy by architect Alexander Briullov. In honor of the 500th anniversary of the battle in 1880 on the field was held a first military parade. The main sights on the territory of the reserve are the Temple of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built to 1884 at the burial place of russian soldiers, the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh built in the beginning of XX century, the estate and the Museum

Museum Yasnaya Polyana  (Bright Glade) was the home of great Russian writer, Leo Tolstoy.  History of Yasnaya Polyana begins in 1627, when these lands were granted by the first Russian Tsar Mikhail Romanov to boyar Kartsev. Kartsev descendants owned the estate until the early 60-ies of the XVIII century. It is not known for sure who built a beautiful park with great ponds and a wide central avenue, but when Tolstoy's great-grandfather, Prince Volkonsky bought the estate, the Park already existed. Tolstoy family believed that Yasnaya Polyana got its name from clean and clear Yasenka river, flowing nearby, or from the wide, sunny valley that opens when turning to the estate. Tolstoy was born here on August 28, 1828. Since 1856 he lived almost continuously in the manor. In 1870-1900, he planted a large part of the cropland with mixed forest, expanded gardens and unique orchards. November 7, 1910 at the station of Astapovo Leo Tolstoy died. He was buried in the Old Sanctuary forest, just five hundred meters from the house, which he had recently left. Since 1921 Yasnaya Polyana – is a state reserve.
