Seliger is a chain of lakes that stretches 100 miles from north to south and interconnected by short narrow channels. Seliger administrative area includes three north-western districts of Tver region and south-eastern outskirts of Novgorod region. The total area of the region is more than two thousand square kilometers. The area of the lake Seliger is 260 square kilometers, 38 of them are occupied by islands, there are more than 160 of them in the lake. The water flows into the lake Seliger from 110 tributaries and only one river Selizharovo flows out. The lake is situated at a height of 205 meters above sea level. A coastline of more than 500 kilometers long is indented: there are wooded headlands, deep picturesque bays wedged into the land, islands with various shapes. On the shores of the lakes there are many natural beaches. The water heats up quickly. In June the temperature of the upper layer reaches about +20 degrees Celsius, and in July and the first half of August the water warms up to +25, which makes the lake a favorite place of recreation for residents of the european part of Russia.
