The first settlements on the territory of modern Ryazan Kremlin are dated as far as the VI-V centuries BC. The Slavs lived here in the VI-VII centuries. It is known that in 1095 on a high rectangular platform with area of 26 hectares between three rivers there was founded the city of Pereyaslavl Ryazansky. The first known stone structure, the Assumption Cathedral was built here in the early fifteenth century. In the XVII century in the Kremlin were built: a Bishop’s chamber, called the "Palace of Oleg", Singing and Consistory housing, the forge. In the XVIII century the ownership of the Bishop in the Kremlin was surrounded by a stone wall with several gates, a fragment of one of them is restored in the Consistory housing. According to the plan of Ryazan development of 1780, the city centre was moved outside of the Kremlin, at that time the Kremlin has turned into a quiet suburb. A new period in the history of the Kremlin began in 1968, when a historical-architectural Museum was established. Today the Kremlin is the main tourist attraction of the city.
