Pskov Krom is the largest fortress in Europe. In the XIV - XVI centuries, the Kremlin together with Veche square, Cathedral and log cabins was the spiritual and also the administrative heart of the Pskov Republic. The length of its walls is 9 kilometers and the area is 3 hectares. Krom is located on a narrow promontory at the confluence of the river Pskova and Great river. At present time, the Kremlin consists of two multi-temporal parts: the first part is citadel with the Trinity Cathedral, bell tower and the Veche square and the second part is the Dovmont town. The Trinity Cathedral keeps the pride of the Russian art of the XVII century, the seven-tier iconostasis. Another venerated shrines of the temple are: the miraculous icon, the ark with the relics of local Pskov saints and Cross of Olga. Krom territory is enclosed by stone walls with bridges, covered by wooden roof with height of 6-8 m having thickness from 2.5 to 6 meters. In the XIII century, Pskov was still the outskirt of the Russian lands. For many centuries enemy attacks posed a constant threat to the city, forcing the townspeople to constantly improve their fortifications.
