Pereslavl-Zalessky is the one of the towns of the Golden Ring of Russia. It is a cultural and tourist center with 4 active monasteries and 10 temples. It was founded in 1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy (Long-Arm) as a fortress on the border of Rostov-Suzdal principality in the place where Trubezh river flows into the lake Pleshcheyevo. The town is famous for its white-stone Kremlin, beautiful temples, built in traditional Russian architecture, significant ancient monasteries and several interesting museums including Steam locomotive museum and cozy museum of Iron. There are also notable nature monuments, including picturesque lake Pleshcheyevo that was once settled by ancient Slavs with amazing Sin-Kamen (Blue Stone) on its shore, that awakens their beliefs that every nature element has the power that affect human life. One of the key figures of medieval Russia, legendary Alexander Nevsky, famous for his military victories over German and Swedish invaders and canonized as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church, was born in Pereslavl-Zalessky.
