The Transfiguration Cathedral in Pereslavl-Zalessky has been one of the centers of religious life in Russia for several centuries. It was founded in 1152 when Prince Yuri Dolgoruky established a new city at the mouth of the river Trubezh - Pereslavl New (today Pereslavl-Zalessky). It was built for 5 years. The architecture of the Cathedral is very simple, like it is carved from a single block of stone. The only openings in walls are narrow arrowslits. Decoration ornament is simple as well. For eight and a half centuries, the Cathedral was five times destroyed by the Tatars, in the thirteenth century it was sacked by a successor of Alexander Nevsky, Andrei Yaroslavich, in the early seventeenth century it was seized by the Poles. It is believed that Alexander Nevsky was baptized here.
