St Petersburg is the birthplace of famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin

There are many places in Russia connected with the name of this genius of a poet and remarkable man. In particular, the famous Pushkin Hills in the Pskov region, where there is the Svyatogorsk Monastery with the poets grave. Every year, on the first Sunday in June, hundreds of people come from all over the country to celebrate the poet’s birthday, to remember him and to read his poems ... But many Russians prefer No. 12 Moika. in St. Petersburg, above all the other memorial places. Pushkin was born in 1799 and lived here until his fateful duel of 1837 with Georges d’Anthes. Pushkin was mortally wounded and died at home.

His home is very easy to find. One needs only to turn from the busy Nevsky Prospekt onto the Moika embankment, going towards the Dvrotzovaya Square, and after several minutes when the outline of the Zimny Palace and Alexandriysky Column appears in the distance, the Zimnyaya Kanavka appears on the right from the Moika. One stops near No. 12. Quietly open the small door in the huge iron gates and enter the yard. There you will see Pushkin right in front of you. This is a remarkable sculpture by N. V. Dadykin. The poet is small, just as he was in real life. And he looks rather surprised.
