A small tent-roofed church was built in 1879, at the expense of local merchants on the outskirts of the village of Ivanovo. It was built in the name of the icon of the Theotokos "Joy of All Who Sorrow" with apostles Peter and Paul and Basil the Confessor, bishop of Parium. In 1901 a high tower was attached to the church and it have got a finished look. In Soviet times the chorch was closed and in 1976 it was blown up. It was decided to build a sports complex in its place, however, the construction works stopped after the excavation of a pit. The church was restored in 1997-1999. One of the features of the reconstructed temple is the fact that its inner arches are made without any pillars, which made the church more spacious. A stone fence was erected on the old foundation. By architects design, a reconstructed church became higher. The belfry has a height of 35 metres, that is an equivalent of a 12-storey home. The bells were cast in the same monastery. Five-domed temple harmoniously blends into the landscape of the modern city. The church keeps the 200 year old icon of the Theotokos "Joy of All Who Sorrow". People believe that icon heals prayers and give them consolation in their sorrows and misfortunes.
